HI,

I have been finding your blog very interesting. My mother and I have started a craft kit business in UK, and we need to find suppliers for things like tiny scissors, knitting needles, crochet hooks, mini pliers etc.

We have come across manufactures in china for the scissors at the price we need but we want to be sure nothing we source comes from sweatshops or has been created unethically.

Can you give us any advise a to how to find out whether a company is reputable and ethical or not?? We simply cannot find out whether the companies we come across trade fairly and fairly pay their staff or not and we are getting desperate to find suppliers. Also, as a very early business we do not have the possibility of coming to china to check out any factories.

Really appreciate any advice you can give!

Regards

Mr. Chang, however, is not alone. From the land where old people have conversations with lonely chairs comes this entertaining piece of prose:
China - not Wall Street - caused 2008 crisis (http://www.cnbc.com/id/48814165)
I suggest to make an inventory of this people's marbles before anything serious is going to happen

You have to give Mr. Chang some credit. Seriously. He's getting paid to repeat the same stuff year by year. Look at this one:
http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/22/china-growth-gdp-economy-opinions-columnists-gordon-g-chang.html
It's my favorite one, just look at this passage:
'--there are reports that central government officials have ordered state enterprises to buy fleets of vehicles and that these businesses are storing them in parking lots across the country.'
Evidence?
'--statistics showing that gasoline sales have been flat this year--up only 6.4% in August, for instance, and sliding since then from all indications. So here's another question: At a time when economic activity is supposedly rising at a quick pace, how can large increases in passenger vehicle sales not be accompanied by corresponding surges in fuel usage?'
You just have to love it!
