Impromptu canine water park in Shenzhen Bay

photo

Add value & reduce waste. It’s a lot smarter than cutting costs.

Cost-cutting does not ignite growth, no matter what any management guru has published. Unfortunately, in the electronics industry as well as in other manufacturing sectors, this seems to be …

Evolution from scratch: It doesn’t get much cooler than this.

adameve

We  have not only observed evolution in laboratories, now we have created the process by developing new strains of nucleotides and letting them reproduce themselves. This is something like an artificial form of DNA, created in the lab, and set on it’s way toward self-replication and, it turns out, evolution (based on selection pressures). This is …

Why try to claw-back Chinese jobs American’s won’t do?

Actually, it is looking like the Chinese won’t be doing them for too long, either.  Nice article in the Chicago Tribune supporting my position (and doing much better than I can) that the US, must work on job creation rather than trying to claw-back outsourced jobs from China. No comment now, just the link and …

Christina Romer: U.S. manufacturing doesn’t need gov’t support

Christina+Romer+Gives+Talk+American+Recovery+jRmyN0e7hKKl

In the New York Times, Cristina Romer argues against too much Government support for U.S. manufacturing. Ms. Romer’s bio from the NY Times: Christina D. Romer is an economics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and was the chairwoman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers. I don’t have any comments on it yet, …

China Labor: Yes, The Times They Are A Changing but no, the sky is NOT falling.

There was some balanced perspective  on the China labor situation from a July 1 Reuters article. Just wanted to share some of the main points: Yes, the fact that there were strikes is significant. But no, the actual effect of those strikes has not been significant because of their limited scope.   (It is, however, …
